Navigating the World of Gut Health for Optimal Wellness with Tayla Burke

Gut health and wellness are two topics that have been in the forefront of today’s social media world. Many women are struggling with poor gut balance and ultimately not feeling their best. About 70% of the population struggles with proper digestion + most of those are women! It’s a subject that’s so important to talk about and learn what we can do daily to support our bodies for optimal wellness.

This week we had the opportunity to chat with Tayla Burke -- the founder of MyGirl Wellness -- all about gut health and wellness. We broke down some taboo topics, Tayla gave some tips for improving your gut health and she even dove into her own personal business journey.

breaking down taboo topics

Tayla and Carolina have a connection of both attending IIN (Institute of Integrative Nutrition) and becoming certified health coaches. Tayla used her certificate to help launch her idea of MyGirl Wellness, which is a community and a brand, focused on supporting women through life and the less talked about moments (that occasional bloating and gas you experience). It is also a supplement company that believes in helping women feel their best and strives to create products that support your body, while also looking cute on your bathroom counter.

It's so important to open up the conversation on these topics that are considered taboo. It’s so normal to have gas and be constipated, and Tayla has helped to create a space for women to feel confident and comfortable talking about this topic + sharing it with others.

the importance of gut health

Tayla stressed the importance of our gut health. Our gut controls every access of our wellbeing.

Have you heard of the mind-gut connection? The way your gut is acting/reacting can influence your overall mood, energy + cognition. Similarly, when your mind is in distress, you gut responds to that stress too -- for some people it may be through constipation while for others, stress has the opposite effect, putting you on the run for the bathroom all day long. It’s honestly all so tied together and something like gas or the inability to go the bathroom can have a huge effect on how you feel for the day.

Have you ever traveled and not been able to go the bathroom? Tayla joked about how no one wants to be constipated on vacation and you just want to frolic on the beach in your bikini with a margarita. This is why they developed one of their products called “You Go Girl”. It’s a natural herbal blend that gently helps you to go the bathroom. I personally want to try this one! I have such bad travel constipation + this would change my world!

Carolina talked about the importance of going to the bathroom for hormone health. Our liver works constantly to get rid of toxins in our bodies. If our gut is having issues, the toxins in our body aren’t going to leave our body if you can’t go to the bathroom. These stored toxins are going to end up effecting your hormones as well as your GI tract.

Tayla's Entrepreneurial Journey

Tayla also dove into the subject of launching her brand and how sometimes closed doors open you up to greater opportunities. The pandemic changed a lot for her personal business journey and redirected her from hosting events and retreats to the world of gut health. She likes to look at life lessons as something to learn from and see what you could take from the “failed” opportunity and move on from it.

This episode touched on so many amazing topics and opened many different conversations that we can all learn from. We hope you loved it as much as we did!
