Building a Business in a Male-Dominated Field

In this episode, Caro had the opportunity to sit down with Laura Munkholm, the President and Co-Founder of Walla Software. Laura has had a very interesting career in the fitness industry, starting with working as a teacher + studio manager, to now running a company that created a platform to help studios run their management operations on a simplified level.

Carolina and Laura had an amazing conversation that touches on Laura’s experiences, how to trust the universe’s timing and how workout groups can foster a community to make the actual workout more enjoyable.

how in-person workouts create community

One of my favorite parts of the episode is when Laura and Caro dove into the topic of how workout classes create a community and connection. They mentioned that although Covid created a space for businesses and solo creators to launch a new idea of home workout classes, it took away from the ability to come together as a class and sweat and feel the burn as a group.

The ability to be in a physical space with one another helps you to feel connected even while working out, you struggle together through those squat holds and dance along to up beat music. Group workout classes also provide the opportunity to meet new people and create new relationships.

Laura mentioned how she’s even seen friendships or relationships blossom from workout classes. Carolina said she always recommends trying new workout classes if you move to a new city. It’s the chance to foster new relationships and put yourself out there! I definitely feel like this is such a great tip! I have met some lovely people at my group yoga classes, and they don’t have to be full friendships, just the act of smiling at someone or a good morning can start your day off on a good note.

how to trust your timing

Throughout the episode, the idea of timing is also brought up. This was extremely eye opening. In today’s society everyone has an idea of a certain “track” they are supposed to be on, what age they’re supposed to accomplish things by or even saying yes to things that maybe don’t feel right. Laura stressed the importance of trusting your gut and knowing that things will happen when the timing is right. I loved one line from Laura, she said “intentional decisions lead to aligned steps.” If you are intentional with what you say “yes” to then everything will fall into place easily and you will be able to reach your goals with less barriers. When you’re in tune with what you can put into the world, then the universe will help to give you what you want.

I loved this episode, and for anyone who is looking to start their own business, needs motivation to reach their goals or even just needs a reminder that life has a plan for you and everything will work out in your favor, then this episode is for you!
